Have you ever overheard someone saying, “Pageviews are up 75% after the redesign, users are really engaging with the new site”.

But, could the increased pageviews not just as easily be attributed to users who can’t find what they want, and are having to scour through pages looking for the information relevant to them?

Equally, if time on site is up, could that not just be because you’ve been too fancy and called Contact Us page something like ‘The Next Steps’, which means nothing to anyone and is slowing down the navigation choices users make?

Never believe what you think your quantitive analytics is telling you unless you’ve got hard qualitative research to back it up.
